Lifecycles Phases
One of the environments you can create in the Business Information module is the lifecycle. This can contain all the methodologies that are executed in your organization. For each of these methodologies, you can specify the phases of execution.
Some of the key features / benefits of this module are:
- Define the order of phases in the lifecycle methodology.
- Once a project task is tagged with a phase, all statistics about schedule, effort, defect, cost, and size are automatically summarized for the project.
- Phase-wise distribution of effort, defect, and allocation can also be monitored.
- Control the selection of review form, task type, and process template based on the environment set for the project.
Review Form
Review Form module is a generic issue capture system that you can use to record observations found during inspection, gate reviews, and testing. When accessed from a Review activity, it allows you to access the work of others and input your comments against their work. When accessed from a Test activity, it only allows you to record the defects you find.
Some of the key features / benefits of this module are:
- Access the user-defined review forms to support the different types of reviews done in your organization.
- Review all tasks of the same work-package level from a single access point.
- Categorize deviations using the defect classifications attached to the review form that you select.
- Set the priority and severity of the issues you record.
- Group together all issues recorded against a task from multiple review sessions.
- Access the document referred and notes attached to the task you are reviewing.
- In the 'Reviewer' mode of a QA Checked project, accept a submitted task or send it back for rework.
- Capture an audit trail of all status reversals along with the reasons for the change.
- Prevent the closure of a task until all the defects identified are resolved.
- Update the project plan with the summary of issues recorded and a count of those yet to be resolved.
Task Type Checklists
You would define task types to tag common activities in your project. In the Business Information module you can create various task types and associate process checklists with each. Activities can then be tagged as one of these task types to generate project and corporate metrics.
Some of the key features / benefits of this module are:
- Associate reminders with each task type to act as a checklist for those working on the task.
- Define entry and exit criteria for each activity tagged with a task type.
- Mark critical checklist items so that the team member does not miss them out.
- Capture reasons for checklist items that are not marked as done.
Process Templates
Typically you would convert successful projects into process templates that encapsulate their schedule, effort, dependencies, notes, and documents referred. The template allows rules to be defined for both automatic and local tailoring. The use of templates brings uniformity to all the project plans.
Some of the key features / benefits of this module are:
- Scale to span the date range given to the import of a template to a plan.
- Do not allow tasks marked as mandatory to be deleted.
- Tailor based on the environment rules.

| As designers and manufacturers of high precision engineering components and systems for a wide range of industrial, aerospace and defense applications, iPlan has reduced our project lead time from six months to four months and reduced rework by 40%. The project involved design, development, engineering, manufacture and installation of an automated mechanical system. It was planned, monitored and controlled in iPlan and involved ten members. One thousand four hundred components were designed, developed, and manufactured for this project.
